  • NOURISH: Deliciously Ella

    I have been following Ella Woodward for a little while now and to say I am obsessed with her work is an understatement. A friend recommended I check her out on Instagram and I was instantly filled with happiness. She has a great way about her and isnt at all in the realms of the unattainable ‘Oh look at my amazing food that you’ll never figure out how to create yourself’ type. She is relatable. She comes across like the girl next door (a very stylish and beautiful one) who you would love to grab a latte with one day when you both stop rushing around. She’s the gal pal you wish you had.

    Right after that I discovered her app and started having a go creating some of these amazing treats myself. As I’ve previously mentioned, I have food intolerances, which makes baked goodies (try these) a mortal enemy to me. So coming across the recipes Ella whips up which are extremely thought out and accessible was a joyous occasion (a dance moment may have occurred in my kitchen). She has been through her own health journey with illness forcing her to take charge of her lifestyle and create the best possible route to regain some control of her condition as she could. I am sure that she didn’t imagine that something which started out as proactive self care could turn into such a wonderful impact for people all over the food loving world.     With her website, the app, books and a social media following to make a Kardashian want to befriend her, this is a name you are going to be hearing a lot more of. I would highly recommend checking her out on one of her channels and buying both of these fab books. You’ll be grabbing the apron in no time and getting stuck in to end of delights.   • RELAX & REPLENISH: Meditation

    Meditation:

    So I wanted to share a simple practice that I have started using twice daily first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Its only a short practice maybe ten minutes or so at best. However you’ll find it leaves you feeling grounded, opens you up to allow a clarity of mind and also creativity in. Uses any current issues as a catalyst for deep enquiry and actually a source of inspiration.

    Sitting comfortably, with your spine straight. Feet grounded on the floor.

    Start to take some slow deep breaths, in through the nose out through the mouth.

    Notice your feet firmly on the floor, grounded as you continue to breath, relaxing with each slow

    comfortable breath.

    As you continue to breath become aware of your consciousness being pulled from the base of your spine, up through your navel, then solar plexus , heart, throat, inbetween your eyes right to the top of your head.

    Like drawing water up a straw, you’re intention is to pull the mind out of the body.

    At the top of your head notice a light emanating from you. Notice the brightness of it.

    From here keep the energy travelling up and up and make the light brighter and brighter, this warm peaceful loving light. Connecting fully with source energy.

    Higher and higher keep travelling up to this light, making it brighter and brighter. Keep going further up and up, you’ll notice that nothing like people, places or things exist here. You’re simply energy all encompassing. Just stay here for a while observing the greatness of the union of the universe and the soul.

    At this point its nice to think of the affirmation/statement of intention that you’d like to install, or enquire into the solution of a potential issue.

    When you’re done, start to bring your consciousness back down the different layers of light, slowly down back to the top of your head, in between your eyes, your throat, heart, solar plexus, navel and base of you spine. Feeling grounded , end the meditation with thanks.

    Verbalising the words thank you a few times. So that your physical and spiritual being recognises it and acknowledges your work.

    Like anything, its all about consistency. Nobody goes to the gym once and then has a six pack and ripped body. This is a work out for the soul, spiritual fitness! As my mentor would say.

  • Play: Marianne Williamson

    Its a hard thing to choose a favourite book to recommend because in truth I have so many favourites. Nothing better than a good book! But this book has stood the test of time and been something I have referred to over and over again. And over time,  I read it I get a completely new understanding from it.
    For that… its definitely in my top five of all time. Big claim. But it delivers I promise!
    The book in question is A Return To Love by Marianne Williamson. This book changed my perspective, my thoughts, my ideas of how the world works… it changed my life.  It is an absolute must read.  And if you get the opportunity to see the legend that is Marianne in real life, please jump at it. Its magical.

  • NOURISH: Jamie Olivers Good Old Chilli

    Autumn is here and I for one love getting my favourite recipe books out and making something which feels filling, warm and comforting.

    Jamie Olivers Chilli Con Carne is one of those dishes for me. Its got loads of veg in it so its a chunky slice of heaven. I tend so serve it with new potatoes smashed up slightly (think half mash, half rustic) with a little butter melted over the top (to taste).

  • RELAX & REPLENISH: Relaxation Techniques

    Interestingly enough, although there are some common techniques that work for most people relaxation is actually quite personal experience as we all have different triggers.

    I speak a lot about physical environment being key to good development in whatever it is we wish to achieve. People, places, resources etc.

    Also it depends type of energy you want to expel and replace with relaxation. For example, if you’re too high up the stress scale, then I would always advice some sort of movement or exercise prior to a relaxation session.

    Just something to bare in mind. So I’d like to share one of my favourite relaxation sessions that I do. This works wonderfully for you as an individual or a loved one.

    First off, phones and devices off! Other than something to play music on, if you love listening to music of course. I find it a great resource to immediately put me in the right frame of mind.

    Those who know me , know that I love a thing called a “lazy Sunday”. This simply involves a walk, in and around nature, trees and water are especially good, and equally important is scenery . Taking the time to notice the simplest of things, the vibrant colours, temperature on your skin, the sounds, the clean air filling your lungs.

    From there when you get in, I like to prepare my food whilst running a bath. The food is normally something “one pot” or something that goes in the oven and doesn’t require a lot of attention.

    Food now cooking, you have time for your bath. Again mindfully notice how you feel immersed in the water, music playing, perhaps the smell of the food slowly cooking.

    From I normally like to choose to read, or watch something easy and uplifting, inspiring or funny. Or all of the above spread overtime.

    But whatever’s best to you, you know what will work best. As I say, giving this treatment to a loved one will get you plenty of points!!

    The great thing is, you can recall this anytime you wish in your memory and instantly feel relaxed.

    William Whitecloud – The Magicians Way

    This book was given to me as a part of a course I took part in. It was a revelation to me. It taught me so much and was a serious page turner. AN its in the process of getting turned into a movie! I cant wait for everyone to see it. I don’t want to give anything about it away so I shall just leave this recommendation here and hope you go ahead and pick this gem up and read it for yourself.

  • GROW: Moment of Stillness

    Life is busy. All the time. A constant level of busy has become a part of our culture. Its the norm. In fact its what a lot of people are striving to get to. The corporate world encourages the belief that busy-ness is one of the signs of success.

    Add to that social media and devices where you are constantly connected and accessible to whoever wants a chunk of your time and, well it can all become rather overwhelming.

    I like to unplug as often as possible and just step into nature. We are BIG fans of being in nature at New Dawn. And so this Moment of Stillness is brought to you by an early evening stroll in Chiswick House and Gardens.

    The sun was low in the shy and it was chilly enough for a cosy scarf. Autumn was most definitely here. And I had a calm, quiet, still moment right here on the bridge.  Joy ?
